What is a He-Man?

posted by Moe Jambo on Sunday February 25th 3:56pm

I have no idea.

What I do know is that He-Man is the name of a cartoon man, but not really.  The cartoon man already has a name and that name is Prince Adam.   Confusing?  Indeed.  You see, sometimes the man is Prince Adam, heir to the throne of a planet named Eternia, and sometimes the man takes off his shirt and prevents evil.  It is in these wonderfully semi-nude times that the man is known as He-Man.  Is it becoming more clear?  Don't feel bad.  Most everyone else on Eternia has no clue either.

There are only 4 characters that know Prince Adams secret (the He-Man alter-ego secret that is) and they arent talking.  Not because they can't talk, because basically everything in Eternia can, but because they dont want to compromise Eternias security.  Here are the folks that are in-the-know:

Cringer on Adam Action Cringer is Prince Adam's pet reverse tiger.  As i stated before, all kinds of stuff in Eternia is blessed with the gift of speech and Cringer is no exception.  Cringer is a giant wuss but he shares Prince Adam's ability to transform into something way more manly.  Battle Cat is to Cringer what He-Man is to Adam.  Oddly, during the mansformation, part of Cringer turns into large red saddle which allows He-Man to ride him.  Whatever.

This is The Sorceress.  She also knows that Adam and He-Man are the same dude.  She lives alone in Castle Greyskull and can't leave unless she transforms hersef into a telepathic space bird.  In her human form she wears a suit that seems to be fashioned from a similar, but much larger, telepathic space bird.

Orko Here is Orko.  He is basically a floating idiot  who thinks he is a magician but only ever causes trouble.  I can't remember exactly what type of creature he is but if he is the best that their race has to offer than Eternia can do without them.

Man-at-Arms

Finally, we come to Man-at-Arms.  Hes the last of those who know the Adam/He-Man connection. He is also the leader of the king's warriors and a totally wonderous inventor.  If there is a problem in a He-Man episode, chances are Man-at-Arms has created a device to solve it.  He follows Eternian men's fashion closely by wearing his fuzzy underpants on the outside of his pants.  Look, a lightsabre.  WTF?

So, there you have it.  A He-Man is a cartoon man with a secret that some of his friends know.  But that's just the tip of Snake Mountain.  There are so many more things to explore in the world of Eternia and we will see them all starting with the first episode (chronologically), Diamond Ray of Disappearance. Coming Soon...

Is there a canonical explanation as to why exactly Prince Adam must wear form-fitting spandex and matching pink vest? I mean, he looks absolutely fabulous, I'm just wondering.

Do you read "Toyfare" magazine? This month's issue features a full page of posters based on the most recent He-Man cartoon show-drawn by various comic artists-they're pretty awesome.

There's one of Teela, thrown over the shoulder of some bad guy-I forget who-who knew she had such a bodacious Jennifer Lopez-like booty? White hot pants are just the thing for showing that off-greenelf
