Three Times a Night

When I was a little girl I was very much your typical 'tomboy'. I could often be found playing tag football with my brother and his friends (or at least pleading to play from the side lines), I loved my G.I. Joe guys, playing Dungeons & Dragons, Castle Gray Skull with He-Man figures, skateboard (before they were cool) and fishing supplies for the creek in my backyard. I never had dolls, with the exception of cabbage patch kids- and I am quite certain I collected those simply due to the fact that I was certain they would be worth money some day. At Christmas I asked for remote control airplanes, while my sister asked for vanity sets and make-up - when my birthday rolled around I wanted video games for my Nintendo. My best friend was a boy, Timmy Brand, and the campouts in his backyard were always WAY more fun than the sleepover parties with the girls.

Now I have my own daughter.

It is funny how a child can be SOOOOOOO girly one minute and then just one of the guys the next.

Jackie is infatuated with my purses. When she finds one she will begin filling it with the typical purse staples – chap stick, hair ties, sunglasses, tissues, usually she will ask for my credit cards also…

 

She MUST have anything and everything that has a Disney Princess on it – she will ONLY sleep with a princess blanket and princess pillowcase. She will only brush her teeth with  her Barbie toothbrush - she adores her ballerina tutu and things with wings - butteflies, dragonflies, fairies! She wears tinkerbell underwear (over her pants) around the house and constantly tells me she looks like Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

But, she also LOVES to shoot hoops, attempt to climb trees, read about scary monsters, watch the Yankees, race cars, cheer for Syracuse, pick up bugs, and lately play baseball…

 

 

She is completely in her element when digging in the dirt or helping her daddy with his ‘landscaping plan’.

 

Yet she always ends up turning back into my little girl – here she is yesterday morning when I stepped out of the shower and entered my bedroom. I asked her what she was doing and she responded “just putting on my bra”.
