The Next Big Thing in Radio

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to 98.5 FM WNYR this morning to hear me chat with Mike and Sharon in the Morning. I know it was early but wasn't it so worth it? If you didn't get to hear the chat click here - Mike was kind enough to provide me with a recording for the blog, so many thanks to him and to Sharon. I didn't mind staying up late in the least as I am on moose patrol right now. A moose has been wandering through our yard and hanging out in our driveway lately and I'm trying to catch him*. Thus far I am unsuccessful.
If news of our warm weather surprised you I'll tell you that we are experiencing what is called a chinook, which is just a fancy way of saying warm, dry winds. I wrote about them a little last year (see the News-Miner on how this stacks up to the usual winter weather here and here.) The relief is palpable around Fairbanks - people are smiling and friendly once again. Josh and I took a walk yesterday. Look ma, no hat!

It was 25 °F at 3 PM yesterday afternoon when this photo was taken. A few hours before the radio spot we headed to the airport to record the official temperature - this was at about 11:40 PM:

That's a 77 degree difference from last week. Hello! I'll take it. Stay warm out there New Yorkers, while I walk around Fairbanks in a light vest and cotton gloves. EAT THAT!
*With the camera, by the way - not a laundry basket and a rope slung over a tree branch or something.
Get feed.

Are you sure you're warm enough? Just checking!
We heard you this morning on the radio. You sounded quite perky for 2:15 AM.
I subbed today, and was laughing on the way to the car....it's actually colder here than in Alaska! How did that happen? You've earned this nice weather kid! Get out and enjoy it. The office just made a pre-dismissal announcement to the kids to be sure to wear hats, scarves, gloves, boots tomorrow....the whole nine yards. It's going to be a doozy. I'll call you and let you know what our wind chill factor is.
Mom
Glad to have you back on the air - don't be surprised if I ask again!
Anytime Mike! It was tons of fun :-)
Congratulations Mike Smith, You have created a "Radio Superstar".A wonderful interview, that should be done on a regular basis!
