Where am I going, Where have I been?

While the future of Snowcones is undecided, I would like to say thank you so much to everyone who has made a point to tell us that they enjoyed our Alaskan adventure. It is kind of surreal when a stranger is staring at you in a store or on the street, and then finally approaches you to tell you they know everything about the last three years of your life. Of course, Josh and I just love it when you do tell us - I know I make blogging look easy, but it is a lot of hard work!

We have about a month left here in New York. Although Josh's job doesn't start until the New Year we would like to be settled in Texas by December to give us time to explore Houston. Regardless, we have to be there by December 17th because we are flying out on the 18th for our Christmas vacation...in FAIRBANKS! That's right - Snowcones is going to give you one last cold, dark, wintry peek at the Interior region of Alaska before embarking upon a warm and sunny existence in Houston, TX.

In the meantime Josh and I have been working a little and playing a little, exploring as much of New York as time (and part-time pay) allows. After the wedding we stayed in Naples for a couple of days, renting a house overlooking Canandaigua Lake. We tasted wine, shopped at farmer's markets, and ate a lot of delicious food. On the advice of our friend Eric we rented the house through The Quiet Place; Josh chose the Naples Chalet and it was worth every reasonablepenny. We cannot recommend them enough and we plan to return in the future.

The house was beautiful and spacious with two large decks and a hot tub. We cooked, soaked, and Scrabbled.

Basket, left, one of two gifted by my Uncle Jim, Aunt Julie, and cousins Jamin and Julia. Jamin made the baskets - from the tree to my table. He's awfully talented and the baskets are truly useable art. (Also: Score! Getting married is awesome.) It's worth mentioning that the basket on the right was left by our hosts at The Quiet Place - cookies from Panerra.

In spite of coming down with the flu onDay Twomy husband managed to take me to a few wineries - Dr. Konstantin Frank and Heron Hillwhich we enjoyed very much.I was impressed at the wide variety at Heron Hill, where we purchased several bottles.

We also had lunch at theVillage Tavern Inn in Hammondsport; the food was great but by then Josh felt like holy hell so we headed back to the house where he slept and I read a terrible murder mystery novel. Newlyweds to old married couple in a shortfive days!

What Not to Buy Me For Christmas

Alaska's biggest quitter, Sarah Palin, is "Going Rogue" once again - this time in her sure-to-be-hilarious autobiography, "Going Rogue: An American Life." I use the word "autobiography" loosely, as it implies that she wrote the book herself, which we know isn't the case. And with a November 17th release date (just in time to stuff your stocking with BS!) she's bound (get it?!) to make money hand over fist.

I'm TOTALLY SHOCKED (insert sarcasm here) that Sarah is poised to make millions of dollars (millions MORE that is - more than the initial advance)mere months after she quit office. I mean, don't get me wrong, that's not why I think she quit or anything (COUGH!).She told usshe quit because it was what was best for Alaska - because her rogue-y-ness was making her less effective as governor. Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking. "But Sarah! During the election you told us your rogue-y-ness made you MORE effective!" But that's part of what makes Sarah so friggin' hilarious. She has no idea what she's talking about, ever.

So I'll take a copy of "DreamsFrom My Father" or "The Audacity of Hope" or "True Compass". Or a gift certificate to Amazon so I can download all three to my Kindle. Thanks.

It's official -Josh is crazy! He marriedme, can you believe it? Saturday September 12 was the best, scariest, most stressful, and most joyous day of my entire life. My friend Pete Flaig - professional photographer, geologist, and rockstar - was kind enough to share every single photo he took at the wedding - please click through to hisblog to see all of his gorgeous pictures (not justpictures of my wedding!) Thank you, Pete, for giving me these precious gifts. Many thanks to all of our Alaska crew - Pete, Dolores, Justin, Helen, Kate, Grant, Chris, & Chloe - for making the trip and being there for Josh and me. We love you ALL!

I want to extend aspecial thanks to the Bonafiglia family. They were thoughtful and kind in their mission to provide us with beautiful white umbrellas for the wedding day. It was a spontaneous gesture of generosity and kindness, and Josh and I are grateful for their efforts. Thank you Bruce, Lisa, Erin, & Daniele for thinking of us.

Bridal-ing

It's here! Can you believe Josh is still going to marry me? I think he's crazy, but hey...who am I to question his judgement? We're getting ready to head to therehearsal, and then the dinner, and then a few drinks at the bar. Four of our friends from Alaska came in last night - two more should be landing any minute and two more will arrive tomorrow. We can't wait to see everyone and most of all, we can't wait to get married!

Have a great weekend - pray for sunshine!

Small World!

I woke up today and went to the Fairbanks Daily News-Minerand clicked on the headline "Motorcyclisthits parked truck gets hit by car" and what do youknow? The biker is from Lyons, NY! Unbelievable. Of course, the news I'm waiting on is how much this year's PFD is worth. It won't be the $2000 from last year (and of course, no $1200 quitter-Palin energy credit) but it would be nice if it were around $1000. I'm on pins and needles!

Also, happy anniversary to Martha and Albert (37! I'm not a love child!) and happy birthday to my friend Jodie. Love you all!
