What is a blog? And why should I?

Blog; typically a form of online diary or journal, however, not confined to personal essays of the soul. A Bolger, one who bloggs, can write anything in his or her blog, from general discussions on various topics of public interest to the most intimate deepest kept secrets revealed to cyber friends.
The later, is what often disturbs me. For starters, posting intimate details on what is largely public media, and then when someone you know, in your real daily life, or your created virtual world, takes note and decides to discuss it with you, and you become offended or embarrassed, well, that somewhat befuddles me. The word, “IDIOT” comes to mind. Why?
In addition, at least from my experiences, most folks who spend that much time on line perhaps are the ones who should stay as far away from this media as possible. For it is they who have no real life. Nor the capability it seems to function effectively with the surrounding world face to face. And that is sad. They make up for it by wasting away their days trying to find themselves. In the process, creating alter egos and dual lives, poring their souls out to people they can not see and can not know. This I find deeply disturbing. Are we becoming a world of introverts where we become addicted to an avenue that permits us the exploration of unresolved issues. Issues we normaly keep hidden from the sun, buried deep down in the bowels of each of our pasts? And in the process, abandon life entirely!!!???
For that reason, I never have ventured into the world of Blogging. But for a moment I must pause in thought. If used in a healthy productive manner, this virtual media that our children take for granted could be put to use constructively, of course that is without our misguided ghosts rearing their ugly heads. (Hint Hint, stay away !!!) Besides, how could I expect to guide my children through cyberland on their own journeys of exploration, if I in my own bias choose not to use it myself?
Writing I find very relaxing and enjoyable, blogging could be another avenue of self expression. My problem with this is I do not write to make my ideas public or even to be read in privet by a select few, but rather for my own enjoyment of exploring ideas, surroundings and feelings I might never have the chance to in the course of my daily life. While I do not write daily, it comes frequent enough in small waves to realize I have begun to amass a growing number of essays, poems and short stories. Rarely if ever to be viewed by anyone but myself.
But I must try
So, here once again I put on shades of a different color. Instead of assuming I know all the answers based on a predispositioned point of view. Throwing bias, namely your own, to the wind in light of new experiences is an exhilarating feeling. I can not see how one could genuinely learn anything new otherwise. By no means does this mean you should disregard known fact, it simply means you make a concerted effort to see the world as it is, or could be if you choose to make it so.
With the draw of writing, comes the desire to explore ideas and beliefs not held true, at least not yet. And blogging, while the idea on the surface repulses me, perhaps can be another venue to employ in the exploration of ideas I might not have had the temptation to contemplate, at least on a less personal note.
