Winter Carnival

posted by Coach on Tuesday February 5th 12:24am

Since Winter Carnival is this week, I figured it was time to write about last years.  “Ancient Worlds Come to Play in Snowy Drifts of Modern Day”, was the theme chosen for MTU’s 2007 version of Winter Carnival.  Winter Carnival is basically a week long extravaganza that thousands of people and alumni, flock to the Keweenaw Peninsula to take part in.  There are many events, but the one that most come to see are the statue presentations.

Statue building comes in two categories.  There is a month long build, and a one nighter build.  Here is Carolina and I getting ready to go hand out glow sticks to the students on all nighter. Carolina, ready to hand out Glow Sticks The month long builds are amazing.  You can tell that this is an engineering school.  Here are a couple of the statues. The Land of Snow and Ice  More Ancient JapanYou can also check out the Carnival website here.  http://www.mtu.edu/carnival/2007/

Carnival is an interesting time for the Keweenaw.  Lots to do, lots to see, and lots of layers to wear.

So this is the story all about how.........oops wrong channel. So this is my space, my time, my duty to inform you about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness way up here (drumroll).......in Canada, Michigan. Travel back in time to a place that has been left in the late 90's. No shopping, no food, and an awful lot of Scandenavien heritage. So sit back, take it slow, im kind of a big deal....people know me.
