PETS OF THE WEEK 8-28-09

posted by Beverly Animal Shelter on Thursday August 27th 8:30pm

Are you still looking for that new canine member of your family?  …Someone to become an active member of your clan?  Well, the Beverly Animal Shelter may have just the dog you are looking for.  Stop by the Shelter and meet our lady, Dillon, and two gentlemen.

DILLON

8-28-09 Dillon

A very friendly and exuberant young Black Lab mix, thought to be 8 months old.  Miss Dillon considers herself to be a “Wal-Mart Special” where she was found as a stray a few weeks ago.  Underweight at approximately 30 pounds, Dillon loves her treats but needs a family willing to commit to proper care, training and above all exercise.  Dillon does enjoy splashing in her kiddie pool on the hot summer days and looks forward to playing with you and your family.  Dillon is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations.

JACK

Sometimes families get too crowded and someone has to go.  In this case, it was the dog, Jack, a 2 to 3 year old Wire-haired Jack Russell/Pekingese mix.  An outgoing friendly guy who looks forward to being part of a family again, Jack weighs all of 10 pounds, is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.  We do recommend no small children because of Jack’s size.

BEAR

8-28-09 Bear

Not a “bear” at all, but a sweet, medium to small Black Lab mix.  Estimated to be eight months old and weighing in at 25 to 30 pounds, Bear is a definite companion (to another young dog) dog.  Cute as can be with white under his chin and on the tips of his toes, right now Bear shares the play yard with Maxine who was featured last week.  If you are looking to make your family complete, Bear and Maxine would do the trick!  Bear is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.

LAST WEEK’S PETS  -  One-legged Mrs. Howell has an adoption in the works, while one-legged, Survivor and “teenage” canine, Maxine are still waiting for their forever home.

SHELTER NEWS  -
Motorcyclists get ready for the ITT/Goulds Pumps/United Steel Workers of America 3298, 4th Annual Beverly Animal Shelter Benefit Ride to be held Sunday, September 13th, 2009 beginning at 10:00 am.  This is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.  For more information contact Mike Janto Goulds ext. 4226; Dennis Pysnack Goulds ext. 7427 or 568-7427; or David Peterson Goulds ext. 4740 or 568-4740.

Jenna’s building is under construction.  How about adopting one of the two remaining doors ($500 each) or one of the five remaining windows ($250 each)?  Your door or window will have a plaque recognizing your generosity.

Thanks go out to the generous supporters who continue to make the Beverly Animal Shelter viable.

The Beverly Animal Shelter is now participating with the Auburn SPCA in the SOS - Shelter Outreach Service (aka Save Our Shelter from the overflow of unwanted animals) Discounted Spay and Neuter Clinics held in Auburn.  Those people adopting Puppies and/or Kittens from the Shelter will be required at adoption to make their deposit to participate in this clinic.  The NYS Spay/Neuter program is no longer available to residents in Seneca County.  The SOS clinic is also open to members of the community who have not adopted from the Shelter.  A reservation and deposit are required.  Please contact the Shelter at 539-9357 for more information.

The Shelter is (as it usually is) in need of laundry (detergent and bleach) and cleaning supplies.  Also needed are cat litter and paper towels, regular towels and blankets.

We have taken in quite a few stray dogs in recent weeks.  Please, if you have lost your dog, do call the shelter.  Do not wait for an advertisement of “found dog” to appear.

The Beverly Animal Shelter is now collecting your old cell phones.  When the Shelter sends the phones in, they receive a small donation in return.

This year the Beverly Animal Shelter, in partnership with the Seneca Humane Society, will again be participating in the Purina Pets for Seniors, where Purina donates cash to BAS to defray the cost of pet adoptions for senior citizens, 60 years of age and older.

Please be a responsible pet owner.  Spay and neuter your pets to prevent more unwanted animals.  ONLY YOU can prevent the overflow of kittens that begins each Spring and carries on into the Fall.
