PETS OF THE WEEK 7-3-09
posted by Beverly Animal Shelter on Thursday July 2nd 7:59pm
It’s the joyous time of year when we celebrate our country’s independence with the colors of red, white and blue. At the Beverly Animal Shelter, we find some reddish tan and white dogs, whose brown eyes are blue because these canine companions remain waiting for their forever home. You’ve seen them all a few times before. They are so ready to be your pet. Please give them your consideration.
CAINE

Caine is just a playful, big “youngun” of a Hound/Golden Lab mix. Thought to be only about 7 to 8 months old and weighing about 45 pounds, reddish tan and white, Caine is a smart lad who knows how to “sit” and “shake” for a treat. A bouncing and exuberant boy, Caine does need proper training along with his daily exercise and playtime. He is up to date on his vaccinations and will be neutered before adoption.
LUCY

Looking for a foster family, Little Lucy, one of the smallest Tennessee dogs, really wants to be a family pet. A white and reddish tan Corgi/Hound mix, little Lucy weighs 24 pounds and is thought to be 4 years old. The question is, does she look like Yoda from Star Wars, or the cutest of the Gremlins, Gizmo? Either way, reticent Lucy needs to live in a home where people care and a companion canine would help to “teach her the ropes” of household life. Lucy is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. Currently, Lucy shares her cage with her dear companion from Tennessee, French Frye who is also looking for a very caring and patient foster home.
MOE

The last of the trio of Hounds found wandering the fields of South Seneca County, Sir Moe still needs to find a home. Estimated to be 4 years old and weighing about 40 pounds, tri-color Moe is a sweet dog who would do well with a companion canine. He is accepting of all - other dogs, cats and children. Moe loves being outside, is learning to follow commands and walks well on a leash. Recently returned from foster care, Moe is now ready for adoption. Please take the time to read all the good things his foster family has to say about him on petfinder.com at http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11870572 . Moe is up to date on his vaccinations and neutered.
LAST WEEK’S PETS - The pure breds without papers are moving right along. If not already adopted, they are spoken for. On the other hand, we spoke too soon about Snuffy’s adoption. It fell through. So, if you hurry on down to the Beverly Animal Shelter, this wonderful dog could be yours. Also, little Jewel and Shaker are still available.
SHELTER NEWS -
Jenna’s building is under construction. How about adopting one of the two remaining doors ($500 each) or one of the five remaining windows ($250 each)? Your door or window will have a plaque recognizing your generosity.
The Beverly Animal Shelter is now participating with the Auburn SPCA in the SOS - Shelter Outreach Service (aka Save Our Shelter from the overflow of unwanted animals) Discounted Spay and Neuter Clinics held in Auburn. Those people adopting Puppies and/or Kittens from the Shelter will be required at adoption to make their deposit to participate in this clinic. The NYS Spay/Neuter program is no longer available to residents in Seneca County. The SOS clinic is also open to members of the community who have not adopted from the Shelter. A reservation and deposit are required. Please contact the Shelter at 539-9357 for more information.
The Shelter is (as it usually is) in need of laundry (detergent and bleach) and cleaning supplies. Also needed are cat litter and paper towels, regular towels and blankets.
We have taken in quite a few stray dogs in recent weeks. Please, if you have lost your dog, do call the shelter. Do not wait for an advertisement of “found dog” to appear.
The Beverly Animal Shelter is now collecting your old cell phones. When the Shelter sends the phones in, they receive a small donation in return.
This year the Beverly Animal Shelter, in partnership with the Seneca Humane Society, will again be participating in the Purina Pets for Seniors, where Purina donates cash to BAS to defray the cost of pet adoptions for senior citizens, 60 years of age and older.
Please be a responsible pet owner. Spay and neuter your pets to prevent more unwanted animals. ONLY YOU can prevent the overflow of kittens that begins each Spring and carries on into the Fall.
