PETS OF THE WEEK 2-3-12
posted by Beverly Animal Shelter on Thursday February 2nd 11:00pm
You might think that there are only large dogs available for adoption at the Beverly Animal Shelter. Well this week, we would like to introduce you to three wonderful dogs. The best thing about these canines… not one of them weighs more than 35 pounds! They may be just what you’re looking for and of course, you are just what they are hoping for! Take them for a daily walk or two and they will be your pal forever!
JERICHO

Tri-color Beagle, Jericho, is an unclaimed stray from Lodi. Jericho is a fantastic, mature fellow with a permanently wagging tail. Thought to be greater than 4 years old, he’s estimated to weigh about 25 pounds. An easy-going guy who walks well on a leash, Jericho is the sweetest boy. He’s also a “talker”. You just gotta love his “Beagle” talk. Jericho is up to date on his vaccinations and neutered.
LUCKY (to be here)

Charming little (maybe 10 pounds soaking wet) Maltese, Lucky might be considered “Special Needs”. Eight-year-old Lucky is deaf and was brought to the veterinarian for euthanasia because of his condition. The vet convinced Lucky’s owner to surrender him. Now Lucky’s special need is for a calm adult home where his disability will be respected. Lucky still has a lot of living to do. At 8 years of age, Lucky is approximately halfway through his expected 15 year lifespan. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. We recommend no small children due to Lucky’s size and deafness.
BLITZ

The opposite of the previous two mature gentlemen, energetic “youngun” Blitz, a small version of a Shepherd/Husky/Lab mix, is in search of a likewise active home to keep him busy. Tan and black Blitz was surrendered because his previous owner did not have time for him. In his past home, Blitz was housebroken, crate trained and leash trained. He lived indoors with children, cats and another dog. Friendly and affectionate, 11 month old Blitz weighs about 30 to 35 pounds. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. We recommend older children due to Blitz’s exuberance.
LAST WEEK’S PETS - Last week cuddly kitties, Oscar, Stoney and Tommi (Girl), continue to wait for their purrfect human.
SHELTER NEWS -
Are You READY? The Beverly Animal Shelter, a no-kill, non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization, will be holding their Seventh Annual Dinner Dance Gala fundraiser this Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Club 86 in Geneva. The evening will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, and dancing to the exciting high-energy nine-piece horn band, Brass Inc. A silent auction will held throughout the evening with items donated by local businesses. This is the shelter’s kick-off event for the 2012 year. We are hoping to make this year’s event our biggest and best ever for the animals!
Donated for an extra special raffle is a basketball signed by the outstanding Syracuse University Men’s Team, including Coach Jim Boeheim! A limited number of tickets are now available at the Shelter at $5.00 each. Don’t have a chance to get to the Shelter? TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DINNER.
SHELTER NEEDS –
You can always contribute online. Please go to www.FirstGiving.com/bas.
THANK YOU FOR THE GENEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE PAST YEAR!!
Please keep in mind when you enter the Shelter grounds, to adhere to the 5mph speed limit. A very sweet but deaf cat that had lived at the shelter for 17 years was killed because someone sped through the drive.
Dallyn, along with the ASPCA, would like to remind all cat owners of the importance (after spay and neutering) of cat collars (safety or breakaway) with proper identification for outdoor cats. The Shelter is overwhelmed by “found” but unclaimed cats. The hope of the Shelter is to be able to reunite the lost felines with their owners. Many types of collars are available for cats. Please see Dallyn for more information.
We have taken in quite a few stray dogs in recent weeks. Please, if you have lost your dog, do call the shelter. Do not wait for an advertisement of “found dog” to appear.
The Beverly Animal Shelter is now collecting your old cell phones. When the Shelter sends the phones in, they receive a small donation in return.
Regarding the Purina Pets for Seniors, Please check with the Shelter for what is available in 2012.
Please be a responsible pet owner. Spay and neuter your pets to prevent more unwanted animals. ONLY YOU can prevent the overflow of kittens that begins each Spring and carries on into the Fall.
