PETS OF THE WEEK 10-2-09
posted by Beverly Animal Shelter on Thursday October 1st 9:13pm
Are you looking for that cute little (or maybe medium sized) companion canine? The Beverly Animal Shelter has them! Like a diamond fresh from the mine, they may be a bit rough around the edges, but with a modest amount of dedication and loving care, you’ll have yourself some real gems. And remember the offer still stands, adopt one cat and get the second for NO adoption fee!
BROWNIE

Sweet and happy, 1½ year old, Lab mix, Brownie is good with all - cats, dogs and kids. Playful and full of exuberance, she is looking for an active household who will provide the exercise she needs. Weighing in at approximately 40 pounds, Brownie is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations.
NEWMAN

Short-legged, black and tan, Newman is thought to be a cross between a Border Collie and a Beagle. A cute little man found as a stray in Romulus, he is estimated to be 2 to 3 years old and weighs about 35 pounds. Newman is great with people, other dogs, cats and children. He is even clean in his cage. Newman is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.
FRED & GINGER

Two 5 to 6 year old Bichon Frise purebreds (without papers) released in the summer from a breeding facility. Although the breed may be known as sociable people lovers, these two poor pups spent too much time as commodities and were in need of rehabilitation. They were deathly afraid of people. In a short time, they have made significant progress (as evidenced by their stylish haircuts). Creamy white and weighing all of 10 pounds, Fred and Ginger need to be part of a caring family with possibly, a well-balanced companion dog. Can you foster one or both of these two or better yet, adopt them? They are neutered/spayed, respectively, and up to date on their vaccinations.
LAST WEEK’S PETS - Unbelievably, last week’s sweet, cute, ready to be adopted pups, Lucy, Rusty and Snaggles, remain at the Shelter.
SHELTER NEWS -
Jenna’s building construction is progressing. Thanks go out to all the generous contributors, especially those of you who have purchased the doors and windows for the building! Each door and window will have a plaque, which will be purchased shortly, recognizing your generosity. Only $15,000 more is needed to complete the building. Are you aware that Dallyn plans to do Spay & Neuter Clinics on sight? Let’s get the building finished and put to good use before Winter sets in!!!
Get your costumes ready! The Annual Paws on Parade is coming! It will be held at the Beverly Animal Shelter (weather permitting) on Sunday, November 1st, from Noon to 4:00PM. Can’t find a costume for your furry friend? Check with Cindy at the Store (Schultz’s that is). She has many available!
Thanks go out to the generous supporters who continue to make the Beverly Animal Shelter viable.
The Beverly Animal Shelter is currently participating with the Auburn SPCA in the SOS - Shelter Outreach Service (aka Save Our Shelter from the overflow of unwanted animals) Discounted Spay and Neuter Clinics held in Auburn. Those people adopting Puppies and/or Kittens from the Shelter will be required at adoption to make their deposit to participate in this clinic. The NYS Spay/Neuter program is no longer available to residents in Seneca County. The SOS clinic is also open to members of the community who have not adopted from the Shelter. A reservation and deposit are required. Please contact the Shelter at 539-9357 for more information.
The Shelter is (as it usually is) in need of laundry (detergent and bleach) and cleaning supplies. Also needed are cat litter and paper towels, regular towels and blankets.
We have taken in quite a few stray dogs in recent weeks. Please, if you have lost your dog, do call the shelter. Do not wait for an advertisement of “found dog” to appear. UPDATE: The BAS online site will now have a list of 'found' pets. If you are missing a pet, please check the site.
The Beverly Animal Shelter is now collecting your old cell phones. When the Shelter sends the phones in, they receive a small donation in return.
BAS, in partnership with Seneca Humane Society, participates in the Purina Pets for Seniors program. Purina provides a partial adoption-fee rebate to anyone 60 or older who adopts a pet.
Please be a responsible pet owner. Spay and neuter your pets to prevent more unwanted animals. ONLY YOU can prevent the overflow of kittens that begins each Spring and carries on into the Fall.
